COMPARE signs an agreement to get CRediT data from PLOS

COMPARE Project is closing the year with some very interesting news. Thanks to the efforts of team member François van Schalkwyk, we have just signed an agreement with PLOS to gain access to CRediT data. Temporal coverage spans from 2017 to the present. This new agreement will allow us to further explore the topic of contribution statements and hopefully combine it with the Scopus data we are already processing in the context of an ongoing ICSR Lab collaborative project called «Mutual Dependence and Levels of Uncertainty in Science Division Labour».

What is PLOS?

PLOS is a nonprofit Open Access publisher, innovator and advocacy organization dedicated to accelerating progress in science and medicine by leading a transformation in research communication. Since 2001, this NGO has been propelling the movement for OA alternatives to subscription journals by, for instance, establishing the first multi-disciplinary publication inclusive of all research regardless of novelty or impact, introducing Altmetric indicators and promoting open science practices.

What is CRediT?

CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) is a high-level taxonomy that can be used to represent the roles typically played by contributors to research outputs. The 14 roles describe each contributor’s specific contribution to the scholarly output: Conceptualization, Data curation, Formal analysis, Funding acquisition, Investigation, Methodology, Project administration, Resources, Software, Supervision, Validation, Visualization, Writing – original draft, Writing – review & editing. Developed as a NISO standard, it is currently implemented by scientific journals as a cross-disciplinary and global taxonomy common to all fields.

Stay tuned for more news coming 2024, when we hope to disseminate our findings on the matter.
